How much heat output is advisable per square meter? The most important formulas you should know

Driving comfortably in a car instead of a horse-drawn carriage or walking, using comfortable central heating instead of carrying coal: innovations like these make good living a lot easier every day – and more expensive. Anyone who wants to enjoy feel-good warmth on their patio at any time thanks to an IR radiant heater also needs to dig into their pockets, as with any other little comforts. But they need not dig as deep as some people assume, because modern IR heaters heat more square meters than many people think at first.

Of course, heating an outdoor area like a patio is not necessarily the cheapest pleasure. But on the other hand, you can enjoy the newly acquired option of using a warm and comfortable patio at any time, and almost all year round. Thanks to their sophisticated design, the modern infrared radiant heaters from Trotec are unbeatable in terms of efficiency. And right from the moment you switch it on, if you were wondering, because there is no warm-up phase with infrared heaters. Because they do not lose heating power to the air, but convert up to 90% of the energy into heat and deliver it directly to the people present, they are environmentally friendly and energy-saving solutions.

These are the electricity costs you should expect

If you want to know what electricity costs an infrared heater incurs on average, you can easily calculate this on the basis of the corresponding wattage. Let’s take a heater with a heat output of 2,000 Watts, for example. One kilowatt-hour of electricity currently costs on average 29.16 cents in Germany. The 2,000 Watt IR heater therefore uses 58.32 cents of electricity each hour at full heat output. Now the eternal price question: what does a kilowatt hour of electricity cost in your region and from your supplier? Take a look at your last electricity bill, or simply call your utility company.

What kind of heat output do you need for your patio?

In order to produce a comforting warmth at any time using infrared heaters, even outside, you need heaters with a heat output between 1,000 Watts and 4,000 Watts. This does not mean, however, that the devices always have to be heating at the highest wattage. Most modern infrared heaters from Trotec give you the choice of at least two heating levels, often even conveniently controlled by remote control, with which you can adjust the radiant heat to the temperature outside or the size of the heated surface. How to save energy and heating costs. The following table gives you an overview of the recommended heat output per square meter indoors and outdoors.
