Heating solutions for commercial use: Infrared radiant heaters

The modern infrared radiators not only heat up their immediate environment quickly, but economically as well. Because they convert a large part of the energy they use into direct heat, IR radiators are particularly energy efficient. They are, precisely for this reason, perfectly suited as a standby heating solution.   They can be ideally used for commercial heating applications wherever isolated heat is needed immediately after being switched on – for example in construction site containers, workshops, warehouses or stables.

Infrared radiant heaters are available in many different designs for inside and outside. When selecting a suitable device, a decisive factor is, of course, to know whether the desired radiant heater is allowed to get wet at its mounting or installation site or is exposed to a lot of dust. Trotec’s product range also includes infrared radiators, which, due to their dust-proof characteristics, can be used in industrial facilities with a high dust concentration or can withstand jets of water from all sides undamaged. Learn in the sixth part of our “Heating’ guide how infrared radiators work and why they can be practically used just about anywhere.

Infrared radiators – how they work

The intense infrared heat is produced with 100% efficiency –  clean, odourless and noiseless as well as suitable for allergy sufferers with no dust blown around. Modern infrared radiant heaters produce direct warmth immediately after being switched on according to the same principle as natural sunshine. Unlike when using conventional heating devices, the infrared rays do not heat the room air but solid materials and objects they are directed at – such as walls, floors or ceilings. These store the heat for a longer period than air and then release it in the form of secondary radiation. Infrared radiation immediately generates a pleasant feeling of warmth on the skin, for example.

How infrared radiators are ideally used

Whether mounted to the wall or free-standing – infrared radiant heaters do not consume any oxygen and do not generate any combustion exhaust gases. That is why they can easily be used in environments with people or animals inside. Depending on the IP protection class, they are sealed against rain and dust and thus suitable for uncovered outdoor areas as well.

Especially for construction drying – infrared heating panels

Infrared heating panels are ideally suited for surface drying of walls in new buildings or following water damage, as they generate a dry (condensate-free) and heat radiation over a large surface. Solid masonry in particular can be dried more quickly than with traditional dehumidification. For drying larger surface areas, up to three TIH 350+ and TIH 650+ professional infrared heating panels can be combined quickly and securely into a stack.

Good to know: Infrared heaters …

  • are ideally suited for selectively heating workspaces
  • with 100% heat output, offer direct heat with no start-up time
  • do not consume oxygen
  • do not generate combustion exhaust gases
  • produce clean and dry heat
  • can be used indoors and outdoors depending on the IP protection class
  • can be used in unventilated rooms with people and animals inside
  • are suitable, as professional infrared heating panels, for accelerating construction drying
