Heating solutions for commercial use: Electrical hot air fans

Electric heaters are used across all industries – such as in construction projects, in marquees, warehouses and workshops, on ships, in switching stations, cattle sheds, garages and in temporary accommodations. In other words, anywhere you wouldn’t want to stand, let alone work, in the cold any longer than necessary.   Why electric heaters are so popular can be explained by their almost unlimited applicability. And the heating systems are safety, quickest and most convenient method for problem-free heat.

Whether traditional heating wires, heating coils or ceramic PTC heating elements are used – with Trotec you can find the suitable electric heater solution for your application. The best thing about these heating systems: No air intake or exit vents whatsoever are required – all you need are the corresponding connections to a power supply. We explain what differentiates the individual construction types and where these are used best.

Electric heaters with ceramic PTC heating elements

Electric heaters with ceramic PTC heating elements are characterised by fast heat-up performance and only low fluctuations of around +/- 2 °C when maintaining the preset target temperature. They are suitable for allergy sufferers, since the low temperatures on the heating element do not cause dust, hair or fluff to burn and, as a result, neither odours nor residues are released into the air. Due to the lower blow out power and throw distance of the arm air, uneven temperature zones may eventually be created in large spaces.  And they are not suitable for dusty environments such as at a construction site or in a stable, since the fine-mesh PTC heating element can clog up.

Electric heaters with heating coil

Electric heaters with heating coil exhibit a slower heat-up performance and greater fluctuations of around +/- 4 °C when maintaining the preset target temperature. Due to the greater blow out power and throw distance of the warm air, even larger spaces are heated more evenly. They are also suitable for dusty environments such as constructions sites or stables, since the heating coils do not clog.  However, they are not beneficial to allergy sufferers, since dust, hair or fluff may burn due to the high temperatures engendered and could therefore release odours and residues into the air.

How electrical hot air fans are ideally used

This way, you can use electric fan heaters practically anywhere because, in contrast with directly fired gas or oil heating devices, they neither consume any oxygen nor do they generate combustion exhaust gases.  Electric heaters are also successfully used to support dehumidifiers during construction drying, since higher room temperatures reduce drying times significantly.

Electrical hot air fans work with higher operating costs

Depending on the regional electricity rate, electrical hot air fans as a rule entail higher operating costs per kW heating capacity than oil or gas operated heating devices.

Good to know: Electrical hot air fans …

  • are regarded as the safety, fastest and most convenient heating method
  • generate 100% heat output
  • do not consume oxygen
  • do not generate combustion exhaust gases
  • produce clean (soot-free) and dry (condensate-free) heat
  • can be easily used practically everywhere, even in unventilated rooms with people or animals are inside
  • are suitable for accelerating the drying of buildings
  • have as a rule, depending on the electricity rate, higher operating costs per kW heating capacity than oil or gas operated heating devices
