Coronavirus: ‘filtered away’ – thanks to the new H 14 class high-performance filter for all professional air cleaners of our TAC series

Class H 14 HEPA high performance filters filter the coronavirus effectively! That’s the good news, which lets every pro breathe a literal sigh of relief. This is because these high-performance filters eliminate particles larger than 0.1 µm – so that the 0.12 to 0.16 µm coronavirus doesn’t stand a chance. This is especially true since this virus does not float through the air by itself, but as a significantly larger droplet aerosol. Best of all: the H14 filters will soon be available for all TAC series air purifiers.

Virus strains such as the dreaded SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV or the novel, recently occurring coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, are similar in size. Current studies have determined the particle size of the coronavirus to be 0.12 to 0.16 µm. This makes the viruses virtually easy prey for a HEPA filter with a class H14 certification: This is because, at a particle size of 0.1 to 0.2 µm, these filters have an enormously high filtration rate of 99.995 %. In other words, out of 100,000 particles in an H14 filter, only 5 particles get through. And it is important to note: The coronavirus, too, just doesn’t fly about the room by itself, but is released through coughing or sneezing as a so-called ‘aerosol’. This kind of aerosol is composed of a mixture of solid and liquid suspended particles, gases and water vapour.

One ‘TAC’ better – TAC professional air cleaners with H14 filters

Because of its effective filtration efficiency, H14 class high-performance filters are used to generate clean air in operating theatres or in the extremely sensitive production of computer chips. And, starting today, the H14 filter class is also available in our TAC professional air cleaners as an accessory for these TAC series devices (for use in the H13 particulate filter compartment):

All H14 filters comply with the highest quality specifications, which are especially mandatory in the sensitive implementation of bacterial and viral filtration

  • each filter is tested and receives a separate serial number
  • enclosed in each filter packet is the test report as a certificate in duplicate
  • the customer can file the original copy of the certificate and attach the copy to the device if necessary
  • testing is done in accordance with EN 1822 and DIN EN 60335-2-69

Why is an H14 filter more effective than an H13 filter?

As a rule, filter suitability for viral applications starts with class H 13. However, particles are removed more reliably with H14 filters. This is because the difference between the two filter classes H13 and H14 is in their filtration quality or filtration efficiency.  This is determined using a test aerosol.

  • H13 class filters must be able to remove a total of more than 99.95% of all fine suspended particles with a diameter of less than 1 µm (0.001 mm). This filtration performance is perfectly adequate for most applications in private households, medical practices or business premises.
  • H14 HEPA filters with class H14 certification remove more than 99.995% of all fine suspended particles. This means that H14 class filtration is 10 times higher than in H13 filters. Filters of this class are therefore, as already explained above, suitable for producing clean air in operating theatres, for example.
