AW 20 S air washer: reduces the risk of infection thanks to optimum air humidity and HEPA filter – available again right in time for the heating season

You don’t have to be a clairvoyant to predict that corona infection numbers will rise again during the autumn, which is getting cooler every day. This is because everyone is crowding back into their warm homes and keeping windows and doors as closed as possible – good conditions for the infectious aerosols that have long been suspended in the room air. But with the AW 20 S air washer, which is now available again, you can reduce the risk of infection long term, because the 3-in-1 comfort device provides perfectly humidified and cleaned air. In addition, the integrated HEPA filter, which can be activated as required, reliably removes pollen, dust and viruses from the air.

The importance of high humidity to combat insidious and infectious aerosols was recently demonstrated by the research results of physicist Prof. Dr. Roland Netz at Freie Universität Berlin. According to this study, room air that is too dry causes the water content in the aerosol particles to evaporate more quickly – these particles become smaller and, instead of falling to the ground, can float around in the air even longer.

According to the latest research results, humidity influences the spread of coronaviruses indoors in three ways. These include the behaviour of micro-organisms within the virus droplets, the survival of the virus on surfaces and the role of dry indoor air in the transmission of viruses through the air. Low humidity causes the droplets containing viruses to dry out more quickly, but the survival capability of the viruses still seems to remain high. “If the relative humidity of the room air is below 40 percent, the particles released by infected persons absorb less water, remain lighter, fly further through the room and are more likely to be inhaled by healthy people. In addition, dry air also makes the nasal mucous membranes in our noses drier and more permeable to viruses”. Explains Dr. Ajit Ahlawat from the TROPOS Institute.

The AW 20 S offers health protection through multiple improvements in indoor air quality

The AW 20 S air washer immediately optimises the air quality several times over in rooms up to 55 m² or 138 m³. In contrast to conventional air purifiers, which additionally dry out already dry heated air during colder seasons, the AW 20 S cleans and humidifies the air hygienically at the same time. Particles contained in the air it draws in are bound with a film of water and washed off by a rotating humidifier disk in the 9-litre water tank. The three-stage high-performance filter technology with two high-quality HEPA filters (99.97% separation efficiency) additionally frees the air from tiny suspended particles, viruses, bacteria, pollen, mite excrement, fungal spores and dust, down to a particle size of 0.3 µ. The multi-level air hygiene system is rounded off by plasma ionisation to eliminate unpleasant tobacco, food or animal odours.

Your advantages at a glance – AW 20 S the air washer …

  • frees the air from house dust, pollen or animal hairs thanks to effective HEPA filtration that can be activated as required – even the smallest dirt particles of fine dust and allergens, mould spores and viruses are reliably filtered out.
  • has sensor-controlled air purification and indoor air humidification through cold evaporation – conveniently combined in one device.
  • enables energy-saving automatic operation thanks to the intelligent combination sensor for simultaneous measurement of humidity and air quality.
  • has numerous practical comfort functions such as whisper-quiet night operation, 9 different operating modes or variable fan control for room adjustment on demand.
  • Scores points with its large water reservoir for long, maintenance-free operations. For cleaning, the device can be easily dismantled and cleaned quickly. This also makes regular filter changes easy.

Triple operating principle of air washing: Cleaning, humidification, odour neutralization

The combination of three air purification processes and multi-stage filtration through pre-filters and HEPA filters make the AW 20 S air washer the undisputed leader in its equipment class.

1st cleaning process: Coarse particle filter and air washing

The unit guides the room air it draws in through a pre-filter for coarse dirt, then past a rotating humidifier disc, where water molecules are absorbed, while dirt particles such as pollen or dust stick to the disc and are washed off in the water tank. The water molecules are absorbed via self-regulating cold evaporation, this ensuring optimal air humidity values.

2nd cleaning process: Double HEPA filtering

By using two HEPA filters, airborne viruses, bacteria, fungi, mould spores, pollen, dust and other pollutants are removed from the room air with a separation efficiency of 99.97%.

3rd cleaning process: Plasma ionisation

With plasma ionisation, which can be switched on as required, a further cleaning cycle starts according to the natural principle of nature. Similar to a “cleansing storm”, both positive ions (hydrogen) and negative ions (oxygen) are generated and blown into the room with the air which has been purified and humidified by the HEPA filters. The bioactive bundling of the ions in the ambient air, forming what are known as cluster ions, causes water to be extracted from the pollutants in the ambient air. This eliminates pollutants and odours contained in the room air.
