In large-scale operations such as the accident in Strépy-Bracquegnies, Belgium, where a vehicle crashed into the crowd at a Carnival event on Sunday, every second counts when it comes to medical care for the injured.
According to the news channel SRF, at least six people died during the street parade in Strépy-Bracquegnies, a city located around 40 km south-west of Brussels. 10 people were seriously injured and 27 hurt. A large number of police and rescue workers were on site to treat the injured and transport them to the nearby hospitals. Despite the dramatic scenes on site, emergency services have to act efficiently and rationally in such situations. In addition to providing first aid to the injured persons, it is important to secure the scene of the accident as quickly as possible.
