Which sander is best suited for which applications

As soon as the rough sawing work around the wood or metal has been completed, the next step is already waiting for us. Because a wooden shelf or chest of drawers wants surfaces that are as smooth as possible. And whenever these are to be produced, there is no way of avoiding a sanding tool. Find out which sanding tool is best suited for which area of application and which one you can use to give your projects just the right finishing touch. You can get everything you need for this in the best brand quality from Trotec: our professional sanders also play to their strengths in every handicraft and ensure precise results.

Belt Sander

Belt sanders such as the PBSS 10- 600 from Trotec are ideal tools for rapid, large-scale sanding of coarse structures. This way, stubborn leftover wallpaper can be just as easily removed as floor paint or old varnish from your doors or garden furniture. On top of that, belt grinders can also be used in stationary operation for chamfering laths, straightening bars or de-burring threaded rods – even for de-rusting ironwork and much more.

Orbital Sander

An orbital sander can also be used as an alternative to the belt sander for removing material from somewhat smaller surfaces. Instead of a rotating sanding belt, the orbital sander has a sanding plate that vibrates at a very high frequency – in the case of the classic orbital sander, this is rectangular so that work can be carried out cleanly right up to the edge of the surface.

Delta Sander

The delta sander is a specially shaped orbital sander. Due to the triangular shape of its oscillating plate, corners and angles can also be reached very easily and fine sanding work can be carried out there.

Eccentric Sander

In contract to all other sanders, the eccentric sander has an oscillating and simultaneously rotating sanding plate. The eccentric movement of the plate makes eccentric sanders much more suitable for fine sanding and polishing all surfaces.

Multi-function sander

Multi-functional sanders combine the range of applications of different sanding tools in one unit – for example, the PMSS 11-220 is an orbital sander, a delta sander and an eccentric sander all in one. The advantage for the use is, among other things, that instead of three individual tools, he/she only needs to purchase one, which results in significant savings.

Angle grinder

These sanders are mainly used in metalwork. Angle grinders can be used to cut through sheet metal, pipes or profiles and to de-rust or polish large metal surfaces. A wide variety of grinding wheels can be mounted on an angle grinder, so that a wide range of applications can be covered with this grinding tool, such as the angle grinder PAGS 11-230.

Straight grinder

Such straight grinders are ideal for spot metal grinding. Depending on the application, different grinding discs can be clamped in place and rotated at a pre-selectable speed. In this way, straight grinders can be used to grind and de-rust metals, plaster welt seams or de-burr workpieces. Due to the narrow grinding head, straight grinders can reach practically any spot, for example the inside walls of pipes.

Floor grinder

In contract to the above-mentioned sanders, this sanding tools is used exclusively in a stationary position. Different floor grinders are available depending on the application. The double grinder with grinding discs of different grain sizes on both sides is ideal for sharpening drill points or cutting tools such as scissors and knives. With an integrated belt sander, the field of application is extended to include coarse and fine sanding of wood or soft metal.

The belt can also be fine-tuned specifically for rimless, flush grinding applications.
