How do infrared heaters actually work? And what advantages do the individual model series from Trotec offer you?

Infrared heaters have always been the method of choice, for example, to heat up the bathroom, which is always too cold, quickly and cheaply in the morning. But for some years now, they have been booming, primarily as elegant sources of heating for the living room that extends outside: the terrace. Because almost no matter how cold it gets outside, terraces, balconies or even the garden at home can be used all year round. If you can also imagine such an attractive solution for your terrace or balcony, all you need is the information from our guide today to get started right away.

Even though summer is getting closer every day, – there will still be plenty of cool evenings! And so cool, in fact, that a cosy stay on the terrace or in the beer garden is actually out of the question. Or you will have to wrap yourself up in thick blankets. But isn’t it a pity every day when the terrace cannot be used at all or only with compromises? Or when the beer garden remains half empty?

This is why the modern infrared radiant heaters have established themselves as the heating solution here as well as there, as Trotec also offers them in the usual brand quality. Let’s take a closer look at how exactly this pleasant warmth is generated and what characterises it. And afterwards, we will take a tour through our product range of first-class infrared heaters: because there is a suitable heater for every budget, for every taste and in various designs, we are sure that you will also find what you are looking for. That’s a promise!

This is how infrared radiant heaters work

Infrared radiant heaters impress with their high energy efficiency. This is because they convert most of the energy required for their operation into heat.

Infrared rays are best thought of as summer sun rays. They also generate heat directly on the skin without heating the surrounding air. The modern infrared radiators (IR) form Trotec work exactly according to this principle. They also do not heat the ambient air by convection, but give off their heat directly to the bodies of persons and objects present. These store the heat for a longer period than air and then release it in the form of secondary radiation. The heat produced by IR radiators therefore has a completely natural and pleasant effect on us.

This is made possible by the electromagnetic Infrared radiation used, which causes the molecules to vibrate when it hits solid surfaces and creates a pleasant feeling of warmth. The intense heat is produced when it is needed and without the need for preheating – a clean way of heating, without generating noise, smells or dust, which makes it suitable for allergy sufferers as well. Since infrared radiant heaters convert a majority of the energy used directly into heat, they are particularly energy-efficient compared to, for example, hot air fans.

A distinction is made between short-wave, medium-wave and long-wave radiation. Short-wave infrared A radiation is best suited for us on the terrace or patio, because it reaches you reliably even in wind and rain. Radiant heaters equipped in this way have direct heat generation and radiate heat immediately as soon as you switch them on. Professional radiant heaters for the catering industry and for private use almost always use infrared A radiation.

Energy-efficient, economical and profitable

Whether you heat with gas, oil or district heating: all heating methods require a lead time and incur costs accordingly. And with alternative heating systems such as wood, coal or pellet heating, both the costs and the lead time are considerable. In contrast, you only switch on the infrared heater at the time when you need the heat. And best of all: Infrared heaters do not need warm-up time, which means that the environment is immediately warm. It couldn’t be more profitable! Save energy costs, time and spare your nerves by using an energy0efficient infrared heater where you want a warm environment quickly – on your patio or terrace.

Infrared heaters put an end to dust and CO₂

Allergy sufferers and asthmatics are particularly dependent on the air being as dust-free as possible. With infrared heaters, the air remains calm due to the heating itself, because with this heating method, as already mentioned, no dust is stirred up. Accordingly, there is less dust in the air we breathe. All patio and terrace users benefit from this, because the mucous membranes in the nose do not dry out, which reduces the risk of cold, especially in the cool season. In addition, infrared radiant heaters do not produce any CO₂. The harmful emissions of conventional heaters, on the other hand, affect the climate and the environment. With an infrared radiant heater, you are therefore making an active contribution to environmental protection.

IR radiant heaters for the catering ind6ustry – up to 90% state subsides possible

Of course, Trotec also offers professional heating solutions for outdoor gastronomy. Regardless of whether it is a narrow terrace with little space or the equipment for a spacious beer garden. And good to know: As part of the Bridging Aid IV, a programme for helping companies during the corona pandemic, the Federal Government subsidises the purchase of infrared radiant heaters. Up to 90% of the purchase costs are reimbursed as a fixed cost subsidy, depending on the reduction in turnover.

Infrared heater series from Trotec – practical all-rounder for every need

For every individual requirement, the infrared radiant heaters of the IR-S series from Trotec offers you a choice of different models of these practical heating all-rounders. For example, with different heat output, different splash water protection (IP protection class) as well as devices that are suitable for wall and ceiling mounting and for attachment to the telescopic stand – and are therefore ideal as mobile stand-alone devices, for example in the catering trade. And this is how easy it is to find out more about the IR-S series and other professional infrared heater solutions from Trotec:

The IR-S series: particularly versatile and energy-efficient

Trotec offers you exactly the right infrared radiant heater for your individual requirements – for example the practical all-rounders of the IR-S series. Depending on the requirements, with different heating power, different splash water protection (IP protection class) as well as devices that are suitable for wall and ceiling mounting as well as for attachment to the telescopic stand – and are thus ideal as mobile stand-alone devices in the beer garden as well as for the terrace. In the catering industry, in tents or halls – infrared radiant heaters of the IR-S series always cut a fine figure.

The IR series: radiant heaters with candlelight atmosphere

The radiant heaters from our IR series employ the new, low-glare short-wave technology. Thanks to this innovation, the bright red light, which is often perceived as annoying, is significantly reduced by up to 80 % – while one hundred per cent of the heat intensity is maintained during the long lifetime of up to 5,000 hours. The greatly reduced light radiation only affects your existing lighting concept very little. In fact, the infrared heat even provides a pleasant candlelight atmosphere.

No matter where the radiant heaters from our IR series are deployed – they stay waterproof. This is provided by their robust design, which boasts IP65 protection: no water, moisture or dust can enter their housing. The radiant heaters even withstand jets of water from all sides without any damage.

The IRD series: warmth without light

The dark radiant heaters from our IRD series are the ultimate in infrared radiant heater technology in technical terms, and work without emitting visible light. Dark heaters are the preferred heating method whenever warmth is needed and the user would like to avoid being exposed to emitted light. Dark radiant heaters are also maintenance-free, since no lamps need to be replaced.

The individual models, each made from anodised aluminium, are suited for use both in a gastronomical setting and in the upscale private setting. Their design is particularly distinguished by a pure and minimalistic elegance. The elongated shape is as smart as it is ingenious, so that the radiant heater is extremely neutral and can be mounted inconspicuously onto a wide variety of ceilings and walls. Infrared dark radiant heaters of the IRD series are ideal for wind-protected areas such as terraces and other outdoor areas in the catering industry and, of course, also for tents, conservatories and rooms that are only used temporarily.

The IRS-E series: mobile and flexible

The IRS-E series of the IR floor-standing radiant heaters brings with it a good deal of extra mobility and thus flexible application possibilities. The highly mobile heaters cut a fine figure wherever there is a socket nearby, thanks to their permanently installed mains plug – and, like all IR heaters, they provide pleasantly cosy warmth from a standing position. Without the need for drilling or dowelling, they stand securely on their own feet or on their large base – and unlike permanently installed wall heaters, they can be taken anywhere.

The advantages of so much flexibility are obvious: the infrared floor heaters can be positioned precisely next to tables and chairs where cosy additional warmth is needed. In addition, they offer the advantage that they also provide warmth under a table, where wall heaters often cannot reach. Whenever you do not want to do without an additional mobile heat source, an IR floor radiant heater is the first choice.

Infrared standing radiator from the IRS series

The floor heaters of the IRS series have one thing in common: they are all aesthetically sophisticated and at the same time well thought-out 360° heating solutions that provide a pleasant all-round feel-good warmth in the garden at home as well as in outdoor catering areas. As slender patio heaters (mushroom heaters) as well as 3-wing infrared radiant heaters that can be used as standing or umbrella devices, or as additional standing heaters in an unusual design, all devices can be set up in ways that save space and connected in an uncomplicated manner.

On the terrace or in the beer garden – the floor heaters of the IRS series make quite an impression everywhere. And adapt flexibly to the conditions on site, for example because some of them are equipped with telescopic rods that allow infinitely variable height adjustment. And because they are all splash-proof to at least IP34, they guarantee you and your guests cosy warmth outdoors even on cloudy days.
