The reason the Trotec air purifier TAC V+ has been developed right now: New study confirms the transmissibility of coronavirus through speaking

What Trotec has been warning everyone about for some time has now been proven by another scientific study: The SARS-CoV-2 virus is transmitted not only by coughing and sneezing, but also when speaking. A study published in the journal “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America“ (PNAS)” shows that aerosols (tiny saliva particles) ejected when speaking just one sentence float around in the room for a long time. This insight is not new. “A large proportion of corona infections are due to droplets and aerosols”.

Half of corona infections are caused by droplets and almost as much again by infectious aerosols in the room air.

The structure of the new study was relatively simple: For 25 seconds, a subject repeated the sentence “Stay healthy” in a closed room. The researchers from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) then used a laser to illuminate the room, in order to make the free-floating aerosols visible and count them. On average, ejected droplets remained in the air for up to 12 minutes! This test result was supplemented with reliable data on the concentration of coronavirus in saliva. According to the study, a person speaking aloud emits more than a thousand infectious aerosols into the room air per minute.

Aerosols – the invisible danger of infection in the air we breathe

When breathing, speaking or coughing, we not only emit large, visible droplets into the room in a kind of “mist”, but also, and to a much greater extent, tiny aerosols. While the large droplets sink to the ground after only about 1.5 metres due to their weight (this gives rise to the distancing rule of 1.5 metres), infectious aerosols, which are only a thousandth of a millimetre in size, actually remain in the air “for several hours”. Therefore, distancing rules, a limit on the number of guests in restaurants and more disinfectant dispensers alone do not protect against transmission of the virus. Aerosols released when speaking spread invisibly through the circulating room air and are inhaled unnoticed, even after the coughing person has left the room.

The new NIDDK study underlines the invisible danger of airborne infection from the coronavirus. If the study results are transferred to a restaurant with many speaking people, it is quickly obvious that distancing rules and face masks do not provide complete protection against infection. Only a combined solution of all possible protective measures – including high-frequency air purification – reliably and permanently reduces the risk of infection. The primary goal must therefore be to prevent the air we breathe in closed rooms from mixing and circulating as far as possible.

And using a Trotec TAC V+ air purifier achieves exactly this.

For virus-free breathing air in rooms with public access: The TAC V+ air purifier

The new TAC V+ air purifier is the first mobile air purifier with HEPA air cleaning technology developed by Trotec. The TAC V+ circulates and purifies indoor air in closed rooms with an effectiveness that is otherwise only found in aircraft cabins and operating rooms. This is made possible by the very high air performance of the air purifier and a new type of HEPA high performance filter with 99.995% filter efficiency.

This all sounds very technical in theory, but is actually extremely uncomplicated in practice. The room air is sucked in near the floor, cleaned of bacteria and viruses by the HEPA filter and then released vertically into the room as germ-free clean air. “Plug & Play” setup! No complex installation or connection process. Simply plug it in and immediately ensure maximum possible protection against infection!

The TAC V+ high frequency air purifier filters infectious aerosols from the room air

There are many places where additional protection against coronavirus infection is not just desirable, but necessary:

  • Hotels and restaurants
  • Open-plan offices
  • Fitness studios
  • Retirement homes and care homes
  • Medical practices and medical facilities
  • The production industry
  • Retail outlets
  • and many more.

Where many people share the air they breathe, only one thing helps against the spread of viruses via the air in the room: permanent air purification to filter virus-contaminated aerosols from the air. Before they are inhaled by other people in the room!

Sneeze barriers, distancing rules, limiting the number of people in the room and increased cleaning and disinfection rounds – all sensible measures! But they offer no protection against infectious aerosols, as these sometimes rise up to several metres into the air like smoke and only after hours do they slowly sink to the ground over a large area – even behind supposedly safe sneeze barriers. In addition, due to their size, infectious aerosols can even be inhaled through face masks.

High-frequency air purification filters 99.995% of infectious aerosols from the room air

Using a TAC V+ air purifier with virus filter significantly reduces the risk of becoming infected with the coronavirus via the room air, even if all safety and hygiene measures are observed! The TAC V+ filters infectious aerosol clouds out of the room air in seconds almost anywhere. The mobile TAC V+ air purifier creates clean and virus-filtered “clean air areas” wherever it is. In these areas, the ambient air remains largely free of airborne germs and viruses.

You cannot ask for more protection, and you shouldn’t demand less:

  • Compliance with all requirements and hygiene regulations (masks, disinfection, etc.)
  • Distancing rules and sneeze barriers to protect against droplet infection
  • Air purification to reduce the airborne risk of infection

Useful information about the H14 HEPA filter, with transmission level of ≤ 0.005%

With their first-class filter efficiency and innovative performance characteristics, the H14 filters, which were specially developed by Trotec for the TAC V+ and TES 200 air purifiers, are really quite impressive. With a transmission level of only 0.005% and a separation efficiency of 99.995%, they offer 10 times the separation efficiency of conventional H13 filters. Thanks to these first-class properties, H14 high-performance filters are even used to produce clean air in operating theatres and in other comparably hygiene-sensitive areas. The best specifications, therefore, to protect hotel guests from the danger of infection during rampant epidemics.

All H14 high-performance filters offered by Trotec meet the highest quality standards which are obligatory for filtering bacteria and viruses:

  • Each H14 high-performance filter is individually tested and given its own serial number.
  • The test report is enclosed with each H14 filter in duplicate as a certificate.
  • The original test certificate can be filed away and a copy attached to the air purification device when required.
  • H14-HEPA high performance filters are tested according to EN 1822 and EN 60335-2-69.

Trotec has developed special high-performance air purifiers for almost every application in the field of occupational safety

The TAC V+, now available for purchase or rental, was developed and tested in a Heinsberg-based study.

In addition to the high-performance air purifier TAC V+, Trotec also offers other air purifiers such as the TES 200 or the TAC 6500. We can supply you with free-standing air purifying solutions as well as air purifiers that can be integrated into your existing ambient air system!
