Corona outbreak after a visit to a restaurant: Trotec explains why current hygiene concepts are probably inadequate – and provides novel infection protection

The importance of permanent air purifiers in restaurants is shown by the first corona outbreak shortly after many restaurants reopened. Only a permanent viral air purifier protects against the inhalation of viral aerosols, which are emitted into the room when speaking and can remain in the air for hours. The new TAC V+ high-frequency air purifier from Trotec completes insufficient hygiene measures with effective protection against the risk of infection via indoor air. The new type of air purifier filters infectious aerosols quickly and effectively from indoor air – before they are inhaled by employees or customers.

It did not take long! While the Dehoga hotel and restaurant association affirms that the hygiene and clearance measures developed by the association provide adequate protection against the virus, what experts have warned against has happened: in a restaurant in the district of Leer, seven people were infected with corona virus. 50 people are in quarantine. “It is an outbreak with several people infected at once and many contacts,” the county of Leer announced on Friday.

Consternation does not help – gastronomy and restaurant associations should act

The hotel and restaurant association Dehoga reacted with dismay to the case. However, this does not help either the sick guests or the restaurateurs. Only synchronized measures, to protect against all three types of infection, can be the appropriate reaction to the latest case of infection. While the significance of smear infection is slowly losing some of its relevance, the complexity of droplet infection is the focus of current research – especially that which occurs via aerosols. The droplets, which are only a thousandth of a millimetre in size, are ejected from the mouth when speaking or sneezing and float as an invisible cloud, sometimes for hours at a time. As such, infections via the air we breathe cannot be reliably prevented despite hygiene measures consisting of social distancing, masks and disinfection. Restaurants are therefore still threatened with sudden closure by the health authorities.

The high-frequency air purifier TAC V+ with special H14 air filter, which cleans indoor air up to 20 times/hour, makes it possible to limit the risks.

Aerosol air filtration usually completely unconsidered in hygiene measures

If one looks at the real distribution of possible infection paths, it becomes obvious that distance rules, hand washing and plexiglas partitions alone are not enough. “Almost half of the transmission is aerosol, almost the other half is droplet transmission and perhaps 10 percent of transmission is smear or contact infection,”.

Effective aerosol air filtration is therefore an indispensable component of any hygiene measures, especially for restaurants. The mobile air purifier TAC V+ filters 99.995 % of all suspended particles such as bacteria and viruses from the room air with a special HEPA filter. Thanks to these first-class properties, H14 high-performance filters are even used in operating theatres for clean air production and in comparably hygiene-sensitive areas.

Effectively dilute and then filter such particles in seconds wherever they can be inhaled

Virulent aerosol clouds are quickly and efficiently diluted by large quantities of clean air in the upper half of the room and then neutralized by the filter in the area close to the ground within a few minutes – before they are inhaled by the guests. The risk of sudden infections among employees or guests can be reduced to almost zero if used correctly.

Only a coordinated set of hygiene measures consisting of distancing, partitions, disinfection and aerosol air filtration can offer the greatest possible all-round protection against infection.

The TAC V+ is now available in various colour variants and, if desired, individualised at a price of £ 3,797.04 in the Trotec Shop. These comparatively low investment costs are out of all proportion to the cost of closing down the entire restaurant again. We would also be happy to inform you about our favourable rental conditions.
