In Düsseldorf heavy rainfall flooded the streets at monday morning. According to the forecast up to 80 litres of rain could fall locally in between 48 hours per square meter. 5 Suggestions for special cases…

1. Don’t loose any time

At water damages fast drying is the trump card. Because the longer the drying takes, the bigger is the chance of consequential damages.

2. Choose the right dehumidifier

To choose the right device, according to the dehumidification performance, is the most important thing for a fast drying process. If the device performance is too low for the task ahead, the drying takes longer than necessary. But a condense dryer which is too strong, can slow down the drying process. In certain circumstances it causes the adverse evaporation in the depth of the wall, instead at the surface first. That means overall the removal of the water takes longer. Why is this? The water in the wall gets transported the fastest when it is present in the capillaries of the material. Through these capillaries it gets brought to the surface of the wall and evaporates. These can only transport just a specified amount of water. So if you put up a device which is too big, it absorbes more water from the surface of the wall, than could flow back in through the capillaries. That’s how it happens that the water does not evaporates on the surface, but deeper inside the wall. That is why the water has to be transported in the vaporous state through the wall to reach the surface. And that happens many times slower than the liquid transport through the capillaries.

3. Choose the right position for the dehumidifier

Ideally you need to use one condense or desiccant dryer for each room to dry. The best is to put the dryer in the middle of the room. If you don’t have a dryer for each room available, in this room you should optionally set up a fan, for example the TTV 4500, because the air exchange between both rooms is very important. Place the fan in direction to the open door, so the air blows diagonal through the room. And if you don’t have enough fans for all rooms, set up the devices in another room all 2 to 3 days.

4. Profit of the optimal air ventilation

Support the work of any dehumidifier additionally with an own fan. We all know the effect of drying laundry: if a light wind is blowing it goes much faster. Also at drying wet floors and walls, an optimal air ventilation helps to shorten the drying time, it could even be just half of the time.

5. Make sure the temperature is right

As a general rule: it should be between 15°C and 25°C. At these temperature you achieve the best success, because the warmer the air is, the more water can be absorbed. No problem at the current temperatures, you might think now. But at night time and in greater altitudes even at summertime the temperatures can get below the optimum room temperature – so if the affected room gets colder, the heating ensures a faster drying process.

At special cases Trotec is your strong partner

For example with our high performance dehumidifiers of the TTK S series – the strongest devices of the yellow-black professional series dehumidify up to 150 litres a day. With the sturdy plastic coated metal housing, equipped for the alternating use under the harshest conditions. The white dehumidifier series, equipped with clearly less features, has an attractive cost price and is therefor intended for semi professional use. Both series are developed, designed and manufactured by Trotec, and thanks to their integrated automatic hot gas defroster system it is ideal for applications in unheated rooms like for example cellars – find both TTK S series now at our Trotec shop.

If there are only several sections or rooms affected at your home, our Comfort Dehumidifier TTK E – S series is worth a look!

At the end of the heatwave the temperature drops and storms follow: according to the forecast of the german weather service in Offenbach in south Germany heavy storms with “thunder storm potential” are threaten.
