If there’s one thing that most musicians have in common – apart from their passion for music of course – it’s the love they share for their instruments. It comes as no small surprise then that they are prepared to go to great – sometimes even bizarre – lengths to conserve and protect those instruments that are so dear to them and that they are forever keen to ensure that they are well-treated and also well-kept. This, however, is not always as easy as it may at first seem, as the instruments’ well-being depends significantly on their immediate environment and the indoor climate.

The indoor climate in certain rooms in both older and outlying buildings, as well as the room climate in many cellars and basements where bands or budding musicians practise and hone the skills they have acquired or are still desperate to develop, is not just bad for either the instruments they are playing or the electronic equipment they are using, like amplifiers, speakers and synthesizers for example, it is quite simply downright damaging. And the main reason for this situation is high levels of humidity.

High levels of humidity are not just caused by poor insulation alone, they are also caused by the fact that each and every one of us emits body heat which, when coupled with the heat given off from such electronic equipment as mentioned above, means that a harmless band session can easily result in a sharp rise in the room temperature and a stark increase in the relative humidity. And what happens when the band has finished jamming and blamming and grooving and trying out new sounds? The temperature sinks again and the water vapour that has accumulated in the air condenses on the ceiling and cold walls and changes into fine droplets of water which cannot only seriously harm the instruments but also the people who play them. That’s because the excess moisture in the room has an adverse effect on many materials like wood and metal (no, not heavy metal), which can cause guitar strings and tuning keys to erode and rust and the body of a violin, cello or piano, for example, to warp or crack. Furthermore, it provides ideal breeding grounds for mould, one of the most common sources of allergies and asthma especially in children.

That’s why the right indoor climate is not a luxury, it’s a must! By taking the responsibility for the indoor climate in your home, office, workplace or band house or into your hands you are effectively determining the well-being of not only the instruments that are so close to your heart but more important still of those people who are probably even closer and who matter more in your life.

We at Trotec recommend using a thermohygrometer to monitor and check the relative humidity and the temperature in your home, office – or band house. If the relative humidity that you have measured is somewhere between 45 and 60%, then you generally have nothing to worry about – but if the humidity value is higher, then you run a high and very real risk of not only ruining your instruments but also your health. And because we are not the type of company that believes in doing things by halves, we also have the solution to any problems which you may have unearthed when using your thermohygrometer:

Trotec has a stunning range of state-of-the-art dehumidifiers which are all designed to regulate your room climate and ensure that the relative humidity is exactly the way you want it. The TTK 50 S is such a dehumidifier. The compact but highly effective unit is equipped, amongst other things, with a humidistat which switches the compressor off automatically when the relative humidity value you have set has been reached and on again as soon as the relative humidity increases. Now just add a fan heater to toast your toes and you can rest assured that you have done all you can to ensure that your instruments stay in good shape and that you and your family stay as fit as fiddles.
In my mind I see little girls who dream about winning ribbons in equestrian tournaments, or I picture Europe’s royalty wearing ridiculously huge hats and feverishly watching the world-famous horse race at Ascot, or I even think of the lonesome cowboy from a renowned cigarette commercial galloping through the American prairie... Despite - or probably because of all these clichés about it, the popularity of horse riding as a hobby doesn’t seem to wear off… But one thing is sure: horse riding is, without doubt, quite a time-consuming and costly hobby. One of the most important pieces of equipment a rider needs is a saddle. But don’t let yourself be fooled… Finding the right saddle for your horse and your specific discipline seems like an almost impossible task to me. After an extensive research on the internet, it becomes obvious that you can easily spend a small fortune on a saddle made from the finest leather and decorated with fancy silver clasps and ornaments which are typical for a western style saddle for example. Continue reading →

In my mind I see little girls who dream about winning ribbons in equestrian tournaments, or I picture Europe’s royalty wearing ridiculously huge hats and feverishly watching the world-famous horse race at Ascot, or I even think of the lonesome cowboy from a renowned cigarette commercial galloping through the American prairie… Despite – or probably because of all these clichés about it, the popularity of horse riding as a hobby doesn’t seem to wear off… But one thing is sure: horse riding is, without doubt, quite a time-consuming and costly hobby.

But these valuable saddles are often stored in draughty, unheated and easily accessible tack rooms where not only thieves have a walk-over but also moisture and mould. Musty smells and mould spots are a sure sign for too much humidity in the ambient air. All the metal pieces of a saddle can start to rust with a relative humidity of only 60 %, and when the relative humidity tops 70 %, mould begins to form on your saddle. Yet when the relative humidity is too low, the leather of your saddle can become brittle and chapped.

The relative humidity in horse stables usually ranges between 60 and 80 % , which is actually quite a high value. In addition, the horse’s respiration, body heat and droppings heat up the ambient air even more. If the tack room is located in an adjacent room to the stable, severe differences in the room temperature can cause the water vapour, which is contained in the air, to settle in the room with the lowest temperature – in this case the tack room.

But would you really want to leave your valuable and precious saddle in such an environment? Probably not! On the other hand, you wouldn’t want to carry your 15 kilogram saddle into your car after every single ride either, would you?! It’s hard to find a solution to that dilemma…

Yet the answer can be so easy: Control the indoor climate of the tack room with a Trotec dehumidifier! Our dehumidifiers successfully protect your riding equipment against mould, rust or moisture damage. The dehumidifiers in the TTK S Series can be left unattended to carry out non-stop drying over a longer period because they are equipped with a special option which allows you to connect a hose through which the condense water can be conducted directly into a drain.

If you are planning on using your dehumidifier in a tack room, we would advise you to choose a model with a built-in hygrostat which will allow you to select the humidity level you like best. Another feature which comes in very handy for use in a tack room: all our dehumidifiers are standard equipped with an air filter which cleans the air effectively of germs, mould spores and pet hairs.

The dehumidifiers from Trotec ensure that your riding equipment is properly protected against the consequences of a poor indoor climate and that they won’t come to any harm through too much humidity. Well, at least we can help out with that! Because although our dehumidifiers work wonders when it comes to reducing moisture levels, they can’t fight off thieves… But what’s a horse stable without a watchdog anyway, right?!

An Englishman’s home is his castle. And his car his most-loved toy. This would be a rather crude assessment of what is more, much more, than just a fleeting fancy or a child-like fantasy – it is a deep, ingrained passion for fantastically-engineered and beautifully-crafted motorcars which stir emotions and – yes, it must be admitted – pluck at the strings of the heart. The beauty, the power and the elegance which veteran, vintage and classic cars embody can cause grown men – and of course women – to tremble with excitement and pleasure and to bemoan a bygone age of glamour and style as they look back on slowly-fading but fond memories. Which is why these wonderful vehicles need to be protected, not only against carjackers and car thieves, but also against the ravages of time, the elements – and the indoor climate.

The effect that the wrong indoor climate can have on the car in your garage:

As any real car enthusiast knows, the indoor climate plays an extremely important role when it comes to preserving the car of your dreams and to protecting it against moisture and the effects which moisture can have on the bodywork, the chassis and the fittings of your prized possession. High humidity levels provide the ideal breeding ground for rust and corrosion. In fact a relative humidity of only 60%, which, depending on where you live, what time of year it is and what the weather is like, is quickly reached can eat at the metal and the spotlessly shiny chrome and cause damage that not only spoils the aesthetic value of your car, but can also transform what was once a dazzling gem into a rough diamond. That’s why you can’t just park your car in the drive or leave it to rust at the kerb, what you need is a proper garage for your car so that it retains its value and you retain the pleasure you get from it.

But there more hidden dangers lurking in your garage than you might think:

Moisture is not only present in the ambient air, it can also work its way through walls and penetrate seemingly solid or leak-proof brickwork. And not only that: if you’ve been out for a spin and been caught in the rain or if you have been unlucky enough to end up in a snowdrift during the harsher winter months, then there will be more than enough moisture on your wheels, tyres and the car’s undercarriage to cause corrosion and considerable damage to your car when you drive it back into the relative warmth of your garage. In such cases, the moisture contained in the relatively warm air can also settle on the paintwork of your car or seep into tiny cracks between the various body parts where it can quickly become a serious and costly problem. And that’s only on the outside. The material or leather upholstery and the trimmings in the interior of your car do not take kindly to moist air and can in some cases adopt a musty smell which is a sure sign of mould. Cars have always been wonders of technology. They can be packed with motors which power the windows or adjust the seats and seemingly miles of cable. Moisture is not just bad for the electrics in your car, it is Enemy No.1. When the electrics don’t work and your car doesn’t start, then the cause could well be moisture.

How to make sure that you and your car remain together a life-time:

You can ensure that you get the most out of your Morgan Plus, your E-Type Jaguar, your Porsche 911 or quite simply the car you are proud to call your own by following a few simple steps:

Make sure that your car is dry before you close the garage door. This way the excess moisture can escape to the outside rather than condense on your car in the inside.
Install a dehumidifier. This may sound a little drastic or over the top, but a dehumidifier like the ones in the TTK S Series from Trotec can monitor and control the climate in just about any room – or garage –and regulate the relative humidity so that the problems described above do not occur and you can be sure that the next time you fetch your car out of the garage all you have to do is turn the key for the motor to gun into life and then purr contentedly as you appreciatively let your eyes and fingers glide over the exquisitely designed, sleek interior and soak up the pleasure of owning your very own personal dream car.

Like we said before. A car can last a life-time. And you can decide if it does.

There are a few fundamental facts of life which you learn at a very early age: eat your greens, they’re good for you (although this is a known fact, it takes some powers of persuasion to convince a four-year-old that you aren’t just trying to trick him into polishing off his Brussels sprouts); don’t cheek your elders (which is obviously meant to teach young children respect although it is another well-known fact that age and wisdom do not always go hand in hand); that burping is bad manners and that you should apologise (whereas back in good ol’ Henry VII’s day it would have been considered a stinging insult if you didn’t belch after a meal) – and that one and one is always two.

Well not in our world it isn’t!

Take the TTK 30 S dehumidifier, for example: the TTK 30 S is a timelessly elegant, compact dehumidifier designed to keep the air in heated cellars, laundry rooms, bathrooms, pantries, walk-in wardrobes and closets dry and free of fluff, lint and other airborne particles. That makes one. And then there’s the BZ05 indoor thermo hygrometer, a rather impressive, and equally elegant monitoring device that not only measures the CO2 concentration in the ambient air and warns you when the levels are too high but also provides you with information on the relative humidity and the room temperature while seconding as a stylish alarm clock. That makes two. Or so you would think!

Instead of adding one and one together and paying for two, you can now buy two premium products for less than the price of one!

Sounds a little odd? It is! Both articles together would normally cost €201.05; but now they’re yours for a staggering €99!

And while you’re still finding that hard to believe, here’s another super special offer guaranteed to make your head spin and your heart sing! When you buy a TTK 75 S dehumidifier (was €255.95, now only €129.00!) together with an indoor thermo hygrometer worth €23.74, you save not once but twice because both items together cost only €139.00! And on the subject of numbers: you could kill two birds with one stone by getting yourself any one of five bargain-priced dehumidifiers and make a massive saving on an indoor thermo hygrometer which would grace any desk or tabletop and provide you with the perfect gift! After all, only 91 days to go to Christmas!

There are many people who think that there is only one species to blame for the alarming and mind-boggling weather phenomena, the melting ice caps, the disappearing glaciers and the steadily rising sea levels which we have experienced over the past decades and years. For these people there is only one possible culprit who is responsible for global warming brought on by the build-up of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (from transport, tourism and industry), methane (from factory farming) and CFCs (from spray aerosols) in the earth’s atmosphere, and that is man. Man may have succeeded in landing on the moon and creating genetically engineered life, but at the same time he has also succeeded in polluting the planet and bringing the world as we know it to the brink of an ecological disaster.

And yet there are also those who say that this would all have happened anyway …

The opinions on global warming are divided. There is a broad phalanx of experts and millions above millions of people especially in the so-called civilised western industrialised world who defy the theory that it is mankind who has caused the Earth to heat up by 0.74C degrees over the past century and that despite the almost universal ratification of the Kyoto Protocol (the United States has yet to sign the treaty), which has as its goal the stabilisation of the levels of said greenhouse gases in order to prevent more far-reaching climate changes from occurring, they staunchly say that global warming is all part of a natural geological process and that we should not be attaching so much significance to man’s role on the planet.

And the opinions are equally split on humidifiers.

Many people do not question the value of a humidifier. They appreciate that it is a modern-day means of monitoring and controlling the relative humidity and of creating a healthy indoor climate by filtering dust and other allergens out of the ambient air. Such an appliance does not only have a positive effect on your health, it also enhances your overall sense of well-being.

And then are those who proclaim that humidifiers do not improve the room climate and most certainly do not provide a healthy environment. On the contrary, according to these people humidifiers do in fact contaminate the rooms that they are installed in by spewing fungus spores and germs into the ambient air and considerably heightening the risk of the onset of mould.

So who’s right? And is it this time not man but the machine that is to blame?

As is so often the case in life, it is very important to first set a few facts straight.

The humidifiers which the second group base their assumptions on are standard evaporator models. That means that these units operate according to the evaporation principle, ie. the water in the humidifiers is heated to such a degree that it evaporates, thereby moistening the surrounding air. Sounds effective. And it is. But this system has one major drawback: the high temperatures which are created and which are an integral part of the functioning principle of such models is so high that whenever the moisture in the air comes into contact with the much cooler surfaces in the room where the humidifiers are installed, then condensation starts to form on the surfaces. And condensation spells trouble. Trouble because excess moisture coupled with high room temperatures provide the ideal breeding grounds for different types of mould and bacteria. Mould and bacteria that could not only trigger allergies and seriously – and I do mean seriously – affect your health and cause potentially extensive damage to your property and possessions.

That‘ s why all the humidifiers from Trotec are cold evaporation models.

Cold evaporation humidifiers can avoid such problems and complications from occurring because they operate at far lower temperatures. The water in the units is not heated. Air is blown through a moistened fleece and this moistened air then increases the relative humidity in the room. And because the air that passes through the fleece can only absorb a certain amount of moisture it cannot become oversaturated. This means that there is no risk of condensation and no risk of mildew either. In fact the air feels and smells so fresh and clean, especially since the humidifier filters dust and other airborne pathogens out of the surrounding air, that you will soon start to wonder how you could manage for so long without one.

In addition, the humidifiers from Trotec are all equipped with a hygrostat which allows you to set the humidity to the level which you think suits you best.

So as you see people can be spilt on completely different issues and yet each in their own way can be right. There may be geological reasons for global warming, but man has undisputedly left a massive footprint on our planet. And depending on the type of humidifier you are referring to they can either be a blessing or a bane.

Humidifiers from Trotec – your ideal indoor climate is only the push of a button away!

And if you want to make sure that the water in the tank of your humidifier stays clean and fresh, we recommend using Wasserfrisch: a hygiene agent which is ideal for all Trotec humidifiers because it works effectively against the formation of germs and algae. Not only does it act as a disinfectant, it also increases the surface tension of the water in the tank thereby increasing humidification performance by as much as 30 %!

During the cold and frosty months of winter at least you mind to keep the doors and windows closed to keep the valuable and costly heating energy inside the house, don’t you? But as soon as the temperature rises again no one really cares anymore… Because if it is warm outside I can open up all windows and doors to let fresh air into my apartment, so there is no problem anymore with damp basements or moist walls, right? Continue reading →

Most of the time people don’t give much thoughts about how to air their house or apartment.

Makes perfectly sense, doesn’t it? I use the good weather and high temperatures to dry my damp basement. But unfortunately it’s not that easy…

Because if I open up all windows during a hot and sunny day, warm air pours into the cold basement and with it comes a lot of humidity. Warm air contains a lot more humidity than cold air, and so it is one of the most significant causes of damp basements and moist walls. Because as soon as the air cools down again, it emits moisture into the surrounding air. This in turn leads to water condensation and hence is inevitably the reason for moisture damages like musty smell, mould or mildew spots.

So, if you want to ventilate your home you should stick to one easy rule: Only open up doors and windows when the outside air is colder than the inside air!

Thereby it doesn’t matter if it is raining, snowing or even the world seems to come to an end because humidity is only transported via air into the house. During a purifying summer storm it could even be the perfect time to open up all windows. Because afterwards the temperature falls again and the cool air which is flowing inside the house can extract humidity from the surrounding air while it is warming up again. The air, now loaded with humidity, should be exchanged again as soon as possible – this means when circumstances give that the outside temperature is lower than the inside temperature again.

Ok, let’s keep in mind to adapt the ventilation behaviour to the temperature level!

During midsummer it can possibly mean that it is only wise to air the house at night. If so, open up all windows to create real ventilation – that’s going to prevent mould and moisture more effectively than constant airing in the daytime!

But sometimes the relative humidity is so high that even efficient ventilation can’t lower the humidity rate sufficiently. In the laundry room, for example, a lot of extra humidity occurs which means there can never be enough fresh air.

In those kind of rooms a dehumidifier can be used supportively. The Trotec TTK S-series provides the right unit for every purpose.

What do a 120 metre luxury yacht and a dehumidifier have in common? Not a lot you might think. And in many respects you would be right. You won’t find many front rooms, basements or cellars large enough to accommodate a class II super yacht with three decks, two Monets and a celebrity chef on board, and only an intrepid explorer – or a fool perhaps – would even consider attempting to cross the channel on a dehumidifier (we’re not even sure if they would stay afloat – here’s another experiment which our dedicated and highly creative social media team might wish to contemplate carrying out– see “Cooking pasta and saving energy: A Test”).

Yet although there would seem to be little or nothing which these two very differently-priced objects – one costing anywhere upwards of a million dollars a month just to charter and the other only a mere 82 euros to buy – may have by way of similarity, there is a much stronger tie that unites the two than first meets the eye…

Dehumidifiers are not only ideal for controlling the climate in your home and protecting your rooms, cellars and basements against mould and the problems that excess moisture can cause, they are also ideal for ensuring that you don’t have to worry about similar problems when sailing the Seven Seas with your nose to the wind and straddling the deck of – yes, you’ve guessed it – your very own luxury yacht.

But in times like these, with the recession biting, interest rates rising and house prices falling, we wouldn’t want to create the impression that we only keen to cater for a clientele that has grown accustomed to the less simple life and for whom splashing out on a class II cruiser is no more extraordinary than spending a day down at the shops. What we do wish to demonstrate, however, is how versatile our dehumidifiers are and the sheer endless number of possibilities for which they are most excellently suited. This is because we have been in the business of manufacturing models, from the ultra compact to the incredibly powerful, for over 15 years now, which is why we know what our clients are looking for and how life-enhancing a low cost dehumidifier can be for you and your family.

And, as we said before, because we would like to point out that you can use them to dehumidify just about any place imaginable: your yacht, your home, your office, your workplace, your cellar, your walk-in wardrobe – you could even use them to dehumidify your Platinum Plus RV if that’s what you really wanted.

Yes, it just so happens to be the most expensive recreational vehicle in the world.

Dehumidifiers play a much more important role in the home or office than many people actually think. That's because they can effectively control the indoor climate and have a positive effect on the way you feel by extracting the excess moisture out of the surrounding air. It is this excess moisture which can not only have an influence on your sense of well-being but can also have a serious effect on both your health and your property. Visit our blog and find out just what the TTK 30 S, one of our most compact and popular models, has to offer… . Continue reading →

Dehumidifiers don’t necessarily come top of many people’s shopping lists. Why should they? There are probably dozens of more desirable things that you would sooner spend your money on and there are scores of far more urgent purchases which you or your family think you should make.

Or are there?

Perhaps you first need to know what a dehumidifier can do and what affect it can have on your indoor climate in order to understand why you and every home or office should have one.

A dehumidifier is more than just an electrical appliance. It can transform the climate of your home, workplace or office – almost instantly. This may seem like a mild exaggeration, but you would be surprised to see just how much moisture a dehumidifier like the TTK 30 S can extract from the air in your room, bathroom, cellar, walk-in wardrobe, basement or holiday home in the short space of only 24 hours. A bucketful. That’s right – up to 10 litres of water in only one day. It is this excess moisture that lingers in the air which can not only damage your possessions and property, it can seriously affect your feeling of well-being and even your health.

Yes, your health. And what more precious a commodity is there than that? So buying one might appear to be a little more urgent than you had previously thought. And what about desirability? Well, dehumidifiers do come in all shapes and sizes and there are some pretty undesirable-looking models out there. But not so the TTK 30 S. The TTK 30 S is an ultra-slim, ultra-chic compact dehumidifier designed specifically to monitor and control the climate in small, heated rooms up to approximately 12 m² as well as other small spaces.

Yet although the TTK 30 S may be extremely compact this does not automatically mean that it is not equipped with all the necessary functions and features which typically separate the outstanding models from the not-so-outstanding ones. Functions which include an auto shut-off feature which prevents the moisture that has been collected in the unit’s container from spilling over, a warning lamp that shows you when the container is full and needs to be emptied, a built-in air filter which effectively cleans the air that you are breathing by removing dust, pet dander, pollen and other airborne pollutants from the room air making it especially interesting for allergy sufferers or an outlet at the bottom of the unit to which you can attach a common-or-garden hose so that the water can be drained off if you are planning on using your dehumidifier over a longer period.

But perhaps we have as yet still failed to convince you why the TTK 30 S is quite simply a must for every household.

Health and safety advisors and experts in the field of air conditioning recommend that the relative humidity in your house or home should be somewhere between 40 and 60 %. Any drier and the air needs to be humidified, otherwise you could easily end up with irritated, itchy skin, a dry, sore throat and an aggravated cough. Any moister and you could quickly end up with a whole host of different problems.

You cannot simply ignore high humidity levels. They can cause wood to warp and furniture to twist and split, metal to rust and struts and supports to buckle and they can also cause mould to spread and unpleasant musty smells to develop. And mould is not just unsightly, it can trigger allergic reactions and literally ruin your health.

So if you have still not succeeded in convincing you that such a spectacularly effective, competitively-priced dehumidifier like the TTK 30 S should be top of your shopping list, then we probably never will. Unless, of course, it is because it is one of the other dehumidifiers in our extensive range that you are looking for.

Ballerinas, sneakers, boots, sandals, peeptoes, stilettos – the women among our readers will know the problem: whether they are intended to be comfortable, practical or quite simply stunningly beautiful, if there’s one thing you can never have enough of it’s got to be shoes! Yet once you’ve bought them, there never seems to be enough closet space to accommodate the whole collection. Maybe that’s because in the course of a life-time the average woman will accumulate around 200 pairs of shoes – and that’s only a rough estimate!

And of course these little treasures will want to be stowed away properly …

First of all, it is important to not just pile up all your shoes into an enormous heap or simply chuck them into a huge cardboard box. This is not only a rather confusing and messy way to store your shoes, it also inevitably leads to ugly marks and bumps, especially with the most sensitive models. Wooden shoe stretchers are a great help when it comes to preserving the original form of your favourite shoes as long as possible, especially if they have been neglected over a longer period.

But can you just put your shoes in the wardrobe? Doesn’t that – well – smell?

The biggest problem concerning the storage of shoes is that no matter how often you wash your feet or how much foot deodorant you use, you can’t stop certain smells from evolving. But who would want such a smell to spread to their freshly washed laundry? The reason for the typical, slightly musty smell of shoes is mostly moisture, and if they are not dried sufficiently, they can quickly take on a rather unpleasant smell. If you have been wearing your shoes all day, you should therefore make sure that you air them well afterwards. And if they are soaked from the rain, you should dry them thoroughly for at least 48 hours before putting them back into the closet. High levels of humidity can easily lead to unpleasant smells developing in your wardrobe – smells which linger in clothes and which are extremely hard to get rid of, even when you bring on the big guns like lashings of perfume and room scent to cover them up or drown them out.

One of the best and most efficient ways of combating excess humidity in small rooms or walk-in closets is to install a dehumidifier. A basic model, like the TTK 30 S for example, is most well-equipped to do the job. These ultra-compact appliances are not only really economical, they are also particularly well suited for continuous operation in small and heated rooms.

And as soon as you’ve got the problem of high humidity under control, then there is nothing to stop you from having a nicely orderly closet… because is there anything that could possibly be more delightful than having all of your favourite items of clothing lined up beautifully in one place? Apart from yet another pair of shoes, maybe …

The images and video footage that we have come to see of Queensland, where parts of the northeast Australian state, equal in size to both France and Germany put together, are submerged under water are harrowing and distressing. We are fortunate in knowing that we won’t be as hard hit when melting snow and persistent rain in our part of the world causes rivers to swell and breach their banks and dykes to burst. But if they do you should be prepared and know who you can turn to in your hour of need when the water has finally receded . Continue reading →

Every year bookmakers up and down the country have a field day with people eager to put their money on the odds of us having a White Christmas. But last year was different. Instead of looking forward to soft, thick snowflakes floating down lazily from the sky most of us were looking forward to one thing only. Less snow.

Last year we were treated to more than our fair share of the heavenly white stuff. But now that the subzero temperatures which turned the snow to ice and the roads to skating rinks have risen the big thaw has started to set in. And as if to make matters worse persistent rain has swollen the rivers and led to unusually high water levels for this time of the year. And that means a high risk of flooding.

We at the Trotec Group have been in the business long enough to know exactly just how bad the consequences of flooding can be. The impact of knowing that your cellar or even the ground floor of your house is submerged or partly under water can hit a man hard and drive him and his family to despair. That’s why we as a company with a professional water damage restoration division are glad that we are able to bring order to the chaos and help out with powerful building dryers and reliable dehumidifiers.

But imagine what it would be like if the situation were even worse?

And in Queensland, Australia it is. What the people of the northeast state are experiencing at the moment is devastating and defies all imagination. Heavy rainfall and high water have led to large-scale flooding, the worst in 50 years, which is currently affecting the lives of over 200,000 people. The area, which is staggeringly the size of both France and Germany put together, has been partly evacuated to save the residents from further calamity and even more dangers. Dangers in the form of a shortage of clean water, flood-related diseases and poisonous water snakes and hungry crocodiles. Already three people have been killed by snakes bites and countless others attacked by marauding reptiles, which like the displaced human population and countless poor animals, are often on the lookout for higher ground where they are, for the time being at least, safe from the floods. As a result the Australian authorities have issued warnings to the marooned victims not to enter the water – which because of the battle that help organizations and rescue services are having reaching them is almost impossible.

<a title=""The Guardian" newspaper interactive map of flood-stricken Queensland.
Luckily for us the situation in our part of the world is less dramatic. But for those unfortunate souls who are, or soon will be, affected help is at hand. We have the know-how, the experience and the equipment to provide them with everything they need to dry out their buildings and restore their cellars and houses to their previous state. We may not know all that much about Australian wildlife, but we do know a lot about building dryers and water damage restoration.
