It is a question that has been asked since time immemorial. But what is art? Art is the product of a process within a process for art has changed and developed just as man and the notions he has regarding his existence and the perceptions he has of his environment and the society and the community he lives in have changed and developed. Art is not just a painting on a canvas, a haunting symphony, a beautiful ode or a mural on a wall. Art can be so many different things to just as many different people: it is art when it rouses the senses, when it moves, shocks or startles the beholder and it is art when the symbolism of the artist’s work leaves a deep and lasting impression, as frontiers are pushed back further and further and the DaVincis, Monets, van Goghs and Picassos of yesteryear are succeeded by the Beuys, Dalis, Warhols and Hirsts of today. Continue reading →

Yes, but is it art?

The works these artists have produced are as traditional as they are controversial. Yet whether it’s an Old Master hanging from a specially appointeded space on a specially appointed wall, a dead cow preserved in a glass case of formaldehyde or Tracey Emin’s unmade bed alive with the shockingly intimate details of her past night, there is one thing which they all have in common – they all need to be protected against the adverse or even devastating effects which the wrong indoor climate can have on such masterpieces and milestones in the history of art.

If the air in a museum or gallery is too dry, then certain materials like wood or fabric can crack, tear and become spongy and other media like paint and varnish can start to flake and peel off. And if the relative humidity is too high, then paintings, for example, can literally absorb the moisture in the air and cause the canvas or the frame to swell up and split. In addition, a relatively low relative humidity of only 65% can provide the ideal breeding grounds for mould and rust and trigger a chain of complex chemical reactions which could all seriously affect the pleasure we get from such pieces of art as well as their value. And just in case you thought this was all that a curator, museum technician, art director or gallery owner has to worry about, it is important to keep in mind that fluctuating temperatures and relative humidity levels are just about the worst thing that can happen to their precious pieces of art – short of them being stolen, of course.

That’s why it is essential that both the temperature and the relative humidity are kept at constant levels – and, paradoxical as it may at first seem, that exactly these levels can be changed so that the room climate which may be ideal for one piece of art can be varied to provide the ideal environment for another.

So, as we can see, achieving the right room climate is indeed an art. Be it in a museum, a gallery or in your own four walls. Yet thanks to modern technology and a whole range of excellently-equipped dehumidifiers all designed to protect you, your family, your property – and any exhibits which you may happen to have – from the adverse effects of the wrong indoor climate while at the same time ensuring that you feel comfortable with the room climate setting you have selected, it is an art that you yourself can refine to suit your personal needs.

The flexible dehumidification and humidification product solutions from Trotec allow you to determine the room climate and decide which relative humidity is right for your own individual application.

It’s an art – not magic. You can trust us. We are Old Masters in the field of climate conditioning.

In my mind I see little girls who dream about winning ribbons in equestrian tournaments, or I picture Europe’s royalty wearing ridiculously huge hats and feverishly watching the world-famous horse race at Ascot, or I even think of the lonesome cowboy from a renowned cigarette commercial galloping through the American prairie... Despite - or probably because of all these clichés about it, the popularity of horse riding as a hobby doesn’t seem to wear off… But one thing is sure: horse riding is, without doubt, quite a time-consuming and costly hobby. One of the most important pieces of equipment a rider needs is a saddle. But don’t let yourself be fooled… Finding the right saddle for your horse and your specific discipline seems like an almost impossible task to me. After an extensive research on the internet, it becomes obvious that you can easily spend a small fortune on a saddle made from the finest leather and decorated with fancy silver clasps and ornaments which are typical for a western style saddle for example. Continue reading →

Which thoughts cross your mind when you think about horse riding? In my mind I see little girls who dream about winning ribbons in equestrian tournaments, or I picture Europe’s royalty wearing ridiculously huge hats and feverishly watching the world-famous horse race at Ascot, or I even think of the lonesome cowboy from a renowned cigarette commercial galloping through the American prairie… Despite – or probably because of all these clichés about it, the popularity of horse riding as a hobby doesn’t seem to wear off… But one thing is sure: horse riding is, without doubt, quite a time-consuming and costly hobby.

But these valuable saddles are often stored in draughty, unheated and easily accessible tack rooms where not only thieves have a walk-over but also moisture and mould. Musty smells and mould spots are a sure sign for too much humidity in the ambient air. All the metal pieces of a saddle can start to rust with a relative humidity of only 60 %, and when the relative humidity tops 70 %, mould begins to form on your saddle. Yet when the relative humidity is too low, the leather of your saddle can become brittle and chapped.

The relative humidity in horse stables usually ranges between 60 and 80 % , which is actually quite a high value. In addition, the horse’s respiration, body heat and droppings heat up the ambient air even more. If the tack room is located in an adjacent room to the stable, severe differences in the room temperature can cause the water vapour, which is contained in the air, to settle in the room with the lowest temperature – in this case the tack room.

But would you really want to leave your valuable and precious saddle in such an environment? Probably not! On the other hand, you wouldn’t want to carry your 15 kilogram saddle into your car after every single ride either, would you?! It’s hard to find a solution to that dilemma…

Yet the answer can be so easy: Control the indoor climate of the tack room with a Trotec dehumidifier! Our dehumidifiers successfully protect your riding equipment against mould, rust or moisture damage. The dehumidifiers in the TTK S Series can be left unattended to carry out non-stop drying over a longer period because they are equipped with a special option which allows you to connect a hose through which the condense water can be conducted directly into a drain.

If you are planning on using your dehumidifier in a tack room, we would advise you to choose a model with a built-in hygrostat which will allow you to select the humidity level you like best. Another feature which comes in very handy for use in a tack room: all our dehumidifiers are standard equipped with an air filter which cleans the air effectively of germs, mould spores and pet hairs.

The dehumidifiers from Trotec ensure that your riding equipment is properly protected against the consequences of a poor indoor climate and that they won’t come to any harm through too much humidity. Well, at least we can help out with that! Because although our dehumidifiers work wonders when it comes to reducing moisture levels, they can’t fight off thieves… But what’s a horse stable without a watchdog anyway, right?!

Imagine you’re standing at an upstairs window looking down into your garden, your street or, if you allow your gaze to wander a little further, that part of the neighbourhood you like to call home. Just dwell on the image briefly so as give it enough time to sink in. Now imagine you’re looking out of that same window and the first thing you see is water. Nothing but water. Oh, there are still the street lamps and staunch iron lamp posts standing smartly like soldiers in straight rows along what until just a few moments ago you would have said was your street, and there’s the odd semi-submerged tree and the random traffic sign sticking out almost comically from the floods, but everything – yes, everything – else that you love and have grown used to, everything that is under the height of say your front room ceiling, has gone, simply disappeared under a deep, sweeping mass of sometimes muddy, sometimes swirling, all-engulfing water.

It is an image that strikes a chord of terror and chills your heart. And it is an image that over 2 million people in 20 of Thailand’s 76 provinces, or to put it differently a mind-boggling third of the country, are being confronted with this very minute.

The floods did not come as a surprise. They don’t always do. It was expected that the monsoon rains, which were exceptionally heavy this year, would cause canals and rivers to swell and that flood defences would be breached and that banks would burst.

But when the unstoppable water masses, which according to experts amount to over 100bn cubic metres of water, kept on coming, carrying cars, buses, drums, debris and everything and anything that obstructed their path, their arrival still came as a shock. And you, dear reader, would only begin to able to grasp the sheer scale of the devastating floods if you yourself were caught up in them and you yourself were a victim of the flood.

It is thought that those affected will have to wait up to a month before the water finds its way to the sea and water levels start to recede. Many of Bangkok’s residents have been evacuated and brought to emergency centres using military trucks, boats or makeshift rafts, while hundreds of thousands have fled to resorts along the coast as they follow the fate of the city’s capital and those who have chosen – or are forced – to stay behind.

There have been sightings of snakes, rats and even crocodiles which have escaped from flooded crocodile farms and there have also been reports of crocodile attacks on children, as they play or wade waist or chest-deep through the water to get to higher ground. In addition to these harrowing conditions, which can surely only be worse when night falls over the stricken areas, there is a desperate shortage of bottled water and foodstuffs that are normally an important part of the Thai population’s staple diet. This and the need for further humanitarian aid in the form of medication because of the high risk of mosquito bites and waterborne illnesses will put a huge strain on aid organisations, volunteers and the Thai government which will be needing in excess of £16bn to rectify the damage.

Such news and images put everything back into perspective. We realise, when all is said and done, how fortunate we are, and we realise that we need to be prepared. But we need to be prepared not only for when the floods come – and come they will, as they did last year when areas as far apart as Cornwall and Merseyside were struck by disaster – but also for the aftermath when the water has retreated and the big clean up begins.

The Trotec Group is a network of internationally-operating companies that specialise in providing quick and efficient help and effective solutions after flooding and water damage.

An Englishman’s home is his castle. And his car his most-loved toy. This would be a rather crude assessment of what is more, much more, than just a fleeting fancy or a child-like fantasy – it is a deep, ingrained passion for fantastically-engineered and beautifully-crafted motorcars which stir emotions and – yes, it must be admitted – pluck at the strings of the heart. The beauty, the power and the elegance which veteran, vintage and classic cars embody can cause grown men – and of course women – to tremble with excitement and pleasure and to bemoan a bygone age of glamour and style as they look back on slowly-fading but fond memories. Which is why these wonderful vehicles need to be protected, not only against carjackers and car thieves, but also against the ravages of time, the elements – and the indoor climate.

The effect that the wrong indoor climate can have on the car in your garage:

As any real car enthusiast knows, the indoor climate plays an extremely important role when it comes to preserving the car of your dreams and to protecting it against moisture and the effects which moisture can have on the bodywork, the chassis and the fittings of your prized possession. High humidity levels provide the ideal breeding ground for rust and corrosion. In fact a relative humidity of only 60%, which, depending on where you live, what time of year it is and what the weather is like, is quickly reached can eat at the metal and the spotlessly shiny chrome and cause damage that not only spoils the aesthetic value of your car, but can also transform what was once a dazzling gem into a rough diamond. That’s why you can’t just park your car in the drive or leave it to rust at the kerb, what you need is a proper garage for your car so that it retains its value and you retain the pleasure you get from it.

But there more hidden dangers lurking in your garage than you might think:

Moisture is not only present in the ambient air, it can also work its way through walls and penetrate seemingly solid or leak-proof brickwork. And not only that: if you’ve been out for a spin and been caught in the rain or if you have been unlucky enough to end up in a snowdrift during the harsher winter months, then there will be more than enough moisture on your wheels, tyres and the car’s undercarriage to cause corrosion and considerable damage to your car when you drive it back into the relative warmth of your garage. In such cases, the moisture contained in the relatively warm air can also settle on the paintwork of your car or seep into tiny cracks between the various body parts where it can quickly become a serious and costly problem. And that’s only on the outside. The material or leather upholstery and the trimmings in the interior of your car do not take kindly to moist air and can in some cases adopt a musty smell which is a sure sign of mould. Cars have always been wonders of technology. They can be packed with motors which power the windows or adjust the seats and seemingly miles of cable. Moisture is not just bad for the electrics in your car, it is Enemy No.1. When the electrics don’t work and your car doesn’t start, then the cause could well be moisture.

How to make sure that you and your car remain together a life-time:

You can ensure that you get the most out of your Morgan Plus, your E-Type Jaguar, your Porsche 911 or quite simply the car you are proud to call your own by following a few simple steps:

Make sure that your car is dry before you close the garage door. This way the excess moisture can escape to the outside rather than condense on your car in the inside.
Install a dehumidifier. This may sound a little drastic or over the top, but a dehumidifier like the ones in the TTK S Series from Trotec can monitor and control the climate in just about any room – or garage –and regulate the relative humidity so that the problems described above do not occur and you can be sure that the next time you fetch your car out of the garage all you have to do is turn the key for the motor to gun into life and then purr contentedly as you appreciatively let your eyes and fingers glide over the exquisitely designed, sleek interior and soak up the pleasure of owning your very own personal dream car.

Like we said before. A car can last a life-time. And you can decide if it does.

There are a few fundamental facts of life which you learn at a very early age: eat your greens, they’re good for you (although this is a known fact, it takes some powers of persuasion to convince a four-year-old that you aren’t just trying to trick him into polishing off his Brussels sprouts); don’t cheek your elders (which is obviously meant to teach young children respect although it is another well-known fact that age and wisdom do not always go hand in hand); that burping is bad manners and that you should apologise (whereas back in good ol’ Henry VII’s day it would have been considered a stinging insult if you didn’t belch after a meal) – and that one and one is always two.

Well not in our world it isn’t!

Take the TTK 30 S dehumidifier, for example: the TTK 30 S is a timelessly elegant, compact dehumidifier designed to keep the air in heated cellars, laundry rooms, bathrooms, pantries, walk-in wardrobes and closets dry and free of fluff, lint and other airborne particles. That makes one. And then there’s the BZ05 indoor thermo hygrometer, a rather impressive, and equally elegant monitoring device that not only measures the CO2 concentration in the ambient air and warns you when the levels are too high but also provides you with information on the relative humidity and the room temperature while seconding as a stylish alarm clock. That makes two. Or so you would think!

Instead of adding one and one together and paying for two, you can now buy two premium products for less than the price of one!

Sounds a little odd? It is! Both articles together would normally cost €201.05; but now they’re yours for a staggering €99!

And while you’re still finding that hard to believe, here’s another super special offer guaranteed to make your head spin and your heart sing! When you buy a TTK 75 S dehumidifier (was €255.95, now only €129.00!) together with an indoor thermo hygrometer worth €23.74, you save not once but twice because both items together cost only €139.00! And on the subject of numbers: you could kill two birds with one stone by getting yourself any one of five bargain-priced dehumidifiers and make a massive saving on an indoor thermo hygrometer which would grace any desk or tabletop and provide you with the perfect gift! After all, only 91 days to go to Christmas!

The relative humidity and the indoor climate are of paramount importance because they are among the decisive factors which determine the standard of hygiene, the degree of safety and the level of cost effectiveness throughout the entire manufacturing process.

But what options do you have if the demands with regard to climate conditioning change because of new quality directives, innovative production techniques or technology or modified production processes?

That’s when flexibility becomes the name of the game. Generally speaking it doesn’t make much sense to modify existing facilities as the costs can quickly explode and endanger the success of an undertaking. The closed dehumidification systems from Trotec enable you to react flexibly to any new situation or requirements. These industrial dehumidifiers are easy to install and can be added to and optimised as the situation develops or as you require. There is, however, one thing which you should definitely keep in mind before you actually start installing the units you think you will need. It is extremely important that you first gain a clear picture of the demand on site in order to be able to calculate the correct number and the correct type of machines or appliances. Failing to do so can lead to costly mistakes – not only from a financial point of view but also because such mistakes can end up seriously damaging a company’s reputation.

We can help you with your questions and concerns regarding climate conditions in your industry. As can Egidius Grafen, Key Account Manager for the Food Industry, who is only too aware of the problems which many of his clients face.

Egidius Grafen knows that a precise and clear calculation provides the basis for determining the right dehumidification solution. That’s why he likes to make a point of visiting the production site or facilities personally, so that he can get a comprehensive view of the situation and the environment in order to be able to reach a conclusive decision – together with you – with regard to the number and type of machines or appliances that are needed.

Yet although Mr Grafen is an expert in his field – or should we say because Mr Grafen is an expert in his field – the first phase that is performed when the dehumidification system has been installed is the test phase. The test phase provides the expert with the feedback he needs to support his initial calculation and to ensure that even the slightest detail has been taken into account. During this essential test phase, Mr Grafen collects climate data and carefully assesses the dehumidification capacity which is adjusted until the optimum in performance has been achieved for your own individual requirements.

Sounds like an excellent idea? It is. And where do we figure in all this? Well, not only do we manufacture and sell the devices that are used to measure indoor climate data like relative humidity, temperature, dew point and wet bulb temperature, we can also provide you with the equipment you need during this all-important test phase. You can hire all kinds of climate control equipment, like industrial dehumidifiers or measurement devices for collecting climate data, directly from us. And if we see that the performance the dehumidifiers are providing is more than sufficient, then we can turn them off one by one until we have reached the target you have set us and determined the dehumidification capacity you need.

Experience and know-how are two key factors that not only play a huge part in the food industry but also in the field of climate conditioning. Yet was it not the great Greek philosopher Plato who once said: “I know that I know nothing.” which to us means that although we as a company have been at the heart of indoor climate conditioning for over 15 years now and despite the fact that we have pioneered many new technologies which have now become standard practice throughout our industry, we are not content with resting on our laurels and will not contemplate leaving anything to chance. Only by working as conscientiously as possible can we provide you with the data you need to confirm that our calculations are correct and that every single element in the equation has been factored in. And only then, when you are sure that we have provided you with a bespoke dehumidification solution that is tailored to meet your demands, will we be satisfied with our level of commitment and our standard of service.

They appreciate that it is a modern-day means of monitoring and controlling the relative humidity and of creating a healthy indoor climate by filtering dust and other allergens out of the ambient air. Such an appliance does not only have a positive effect on your health, it also enhances your overall sense of well-being. And then are those who proclaim that humidifiers do not improve the room climate and most certainly do not provide a healthy environment. On the contrary, according to these people humidifiers do in fact contaminate the rooms that they are installed in by spewing fungus spores and germs into the ambient air and considerably heightening the risk of the onset of mould. So who’s right? And is it this time not man but the machine that is to blame? Continue reading →

There are many people who think that there is only one species to blame for the alarming and mind-boggling weather phenomena, the melting ice caps, the disappearing glaciers and the steadily rising sea levels which we have experienced over the past decades and years. For these people there is only one possible culprit who is responsible for global warming brought on by the build-up of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (from transport, tourism and industry), methane (from factory farming) and CFCs (from spray aerosols) in the earth’s atmosphere, and that is man. Man may have succeeded in landing on the moon and creating genetically engineered life, but at the same time he has also succeeded in polluting the planet and bringing the world as we know it to the brink of an ecological disaster.

And yet there are also those who say that this would all have happened anyway …

The opinions on global warming are divided. There is a broad phalanx of experts and millions above millions of people especially in the so-called civilised western industrialised world who defy the theory that it is mankind who has caused the Earth to heat up by 0.74C degrees over the past century and that despite the almost universal ratification of the Kyoto Protocol (the United States has yet to sign the treaty), which has as its goal the stabilisation of the levels of said greenhouse gases in order to prevent more far-reaching climate changes from occurring, they staunchly say that global warming is all part of a natural geological process and that we should not be attaching so much significance to man’s role on the planet.

And the opinions are equally split on humidifiers.

Many people do not question the value of a humidifier.

As is so often the case in life, it is very important to first set a few facts straight.

The humidifiers which the second group base their assumptions on are standard evaporator models. That means that these units operate according to the evaporation principle, ie. the water in the humidifiers is heated to such a degree that it evaporates, thereby moistening the surrounding air. Sounds effective. And it is. But this system has one major drawback: the high temperatures which are created and which are an integral part of the functioning principle of such models is so high that whenever the moisture in the air comes into contact with the much cooler surfaces in the room where the humidifiers are installed, then condensation starts to form on the surfaces. And condensation spells trouble. Trouble because excess moisture coupled with high room temperatures provide the ideal breeding grounds for different types of mould and bacteria. Mould and bacteria that could not only trigger allergies and seriously – and I do mean seriously – affect your health and cause potentially extensive damage to your property and possessions.

That‘ s why all the humidifiers from Trotec are cold evaporation models.

Cold evaporation humidifiers can avoid such problems and complications from occurring because they operate at far lower temperatures. The water in the units is not heated. Air is blown through a moistened fleece and this moistened air then increases the relative humidity in the room. And because the air that passes through the fleece can only absorb a certain amount of moisture it cannot become oversaturated. This means that there is no risk of condensation and no risk of mildew either. In fact the air feels and smells so fresh and clean, especially since the humidifier filters dust and other airborne pathogens out of the surrounding air, that you will soon start to wonder how you could manage for so long without one.

In addition, the humidifiers from Trotec are all equipped with a hygrostat which allows you to set the humidity to the level which you think suits you best.

So as you see people can be spilt on completely different issues and yet each in their own way can be right. There may be geological reasons for global warming, but man has undisputedly left a massive footprint on our planet. And depending on the type of humidifier you are referring to they can either be a blessing or a bane.

Humidifiers from Trotec – your ideal indoor climate is only the push of a button away!

And if you want to make sure that the water in the tank of your humidifier stays clean and fresh, we recommend using Wasserfrisch: a hygiene agent which is ideal for all Trotec humidifiers because it works effectively against the formation of germs and algae. Not only does it act as a disinfectant, it also increases the surface tension of the water in the tank thereby increasing humidification performance by as much as 30 %!

For those who are affected it is nothing short of a living nightmare. And for all those who thanks to the power of the media watch on as tragedy after tragedy unfolds and normal people – people like you and me – wade through streets that have turned into raging rivers and homeowners and shopkeepers stand waist-deep in murky water, staring into the camera numb with shock and despair, it is a scenario that fills our hearts with angst and sympathy – and a feeling of foreboding, because this could happen to almost anyone, almost anywhere. And yes it could happen to us.

When on July 2, 2011 the heavens over Copenhagen opened and six inches (15cm) of rain fell over the country’s capital in only a single hour, this was the latest in a chain of natural catastrophes caused by weather phenomena that have rocked our world to its foundations in the course of the past several years.

Following the truly unimaginable horrors that the people of New Orleans and indeed the whole state of Louisiana had to endure when hurricane Katrina tore a path through the south of the US leaving behind her a trail of destruction estimated at over $80 billion and the jazz capital of the world submerged under up to 14 feet (4.5 m) of water, and following the gargantuan-scale flooding that hit Queensland after weeks of persistent rain that caused rivers to swell and break their banks until the only way the water could go was sideways as it spread out over parched plains so that it eventually covered an area that was unbelievably the combined size of both Germany and France, it is now the turn of Denmark to experience disproportionate amounts of rainfall which has already led to heavy flooding in parts of the nation’s largest city.

The word that probably best describes the current situation is chaos. Thousands of homes and millions of people have been affected. The storms which erupted over Copenhagen after a day of close and oppressive weather were accompanied by monsoon-like rainfall which caused sewers to overflow and spill into basements and cellars and rainwater to rapidly fill underground car parks, subways and tunnels. Manhole covers were washed away leaving gaping holes in the road that invariably presented a dire threat to pedestrians and motorists who could be seen braving the floods – or acting recklessly and foolishly depending on the urgency of their mission.

As a result of the rising water levels, the authorities were forced to close freeways and traffic arteries which are vital to the capital’s residents and commuters, and railway tracks and points were rendered useless under several feet of rainwater. Both the Tivoli Amusement Park and the main railway station had to be evacuated with the Danish Meteorological Institute recording more than 18,600 lightening strikes. The situation in Denmark has once again shown that none of us can count on not being affected by changing weather patterns and freak storms that tear at whole cities, even countries, and change our lives in the course of only a few sparse minutes or hours.

We as a company have committed ourselves to providing only the best products and solutions to deal with the aftermath of such flooding and high water.

We have already dispatched 1000s of dehumidifiers to distributors in Denmark who will then be able to provide homeowners, public authorities and insurance companies with the means to dry out the buildings which have fallen victim to the floods when the water has receded.

Big, billowy storm clouds the size of battleships hanging ominously overhead, a grey band of rain bringing even more gloom and despondency stretching out on the horizon. You can tune in to whichever radio station or channel you like or go to any website. The weather forecast is always the same: abysmal. Some areas are once again predicted to get a month’s rainfall in only one day.
For those of us unfortunate enough to have been affected by these sudden torrential downpours that transform a trickle into a raging torrent and rivulets into rivers, this year will certainly be one to remember. Having previously read or heard about the flooding abroad, in far off places, places where we would not have thought it could have been possible on such a scale it is now our turn to worry whether we are the next, whether it is our town or village that will be hit by the sheer unstoppable masses of water that swell into streets and houses and engulf everything that stands in their way.

The north-east of England was the last part of the country to be severely affected by monsoon-like rainstorms which swept across the UK over the weekend. Video footage could be seen on national television showing how tunnels and subways had filled with startling speed as flash floods submerged stretches of road under up to 50cm of water often catching motorists unawares and leaving some of the more frightened or foolhardy ones stranded in their cars until they could be rescued by local services.

Although we can do nothing – except perhaps change our collective attitude to the environment and cease to disregard the responsibility we all as individuals have – to prevent these personal tragedies from occurring, we as a company can help families and households to cope with the aftermath of the floods and help restore their property to the state it was in before the heavens opened and disgorged their contents on unsuspecting residents.

Because when the waters have subsided and the cellars have been pumped empty it is time to dry out the buildings in order to stop even more damage, especially structural damage, from occurring.

As one of Europe’s leading suppliers of drying equipment – both to buy and to hire – we can provide you with the building dryers and the dehumidifiers you need to manage the situation and orchestrate the clean up that inevitably follows such devastation.

To find out exactly which unit – or units – we have for you visit our online shop or contact our experts at TKL, Europe’s largest home-delivery hiring company. There is also an online capacity calculator available which is designed to take the guessing out of what you need.

So as much as we would like to, we can’t change the weather this summer. But what we can do is give you the best deal for your money.

Trotec. The real deal.

How to ventilate during summer" />Most of the time people don’t give much thoughts about how to air their house or apartment. During the cold and frosty months of winter at least you mind to keep the doors and windows closed to keep the valuable and costly heating energy inside the house, don’t you? But as soon as the temperature rises again no one really cares anymore… Because if it is warm outside I can open up all windows and doors to let fresh air into my apartment, so there is no problem anymore with damp basements or moist walls, right? Continue reading →

Most of the time people don’t give much thoughts about how to air their house or apartment.

Makes perfectly sense, doesn’t it? I use the good weather and high temperatures to dry my damp basement. But unfortunately it’s not that easy…

Because if I open up all windows during a hot and sunny day, warm air pours into the cold basement and with it comes a lot of humidity. Warm air contains a lot more humidity than cold air, and so it is one of the most significant causes of damp basements and moist walls. Because as soon as the air cools down again, it emits moisture into the surrounding air. This in turn leads to water condensation and hence is inevitably the reason for moisture damages like musty smell, mould or mildew spots.

So, if you want to ventilate your home you should stick to one easy rule: Only open up doors and windows when the outside air is colder than the inside air!

Thereby it doesn’t matter if it is raining, snowing or even the world seems to come to an end because humidity is only transported via air into the house. During a purifying summer storm it could even be the perfect time to open up all windows. Because afterwards the temperature falls again and the cool air which is flowing inside the house can extract humidity from the surrounding air while it is warming up again. The air, now loaded with humidity, should be exchanged again as soon as possible – this means when circumstances give that the outside temperature is lower than the inside temperature again.

Ok, let’s keep in mind to adapt the ventilation behaviour to the temperature level!

During midsummer it can possibly mean that it is only wise to air the house at night. If so, open up all windows to create real ventilation – that’s going to prevent mould and moisture more effectively than constant airing in the daytime!

But sometimes the relative humidity is so high that even efficient ventilation can’t lower the humidity rate sufficiently. In the laundry room, for example, a lot of extra humidity occurs which means there can never be enough fresh air.

In those kind of rooms a dehumidifier can be used supportively. The Trotec TTK S-series provides the right unit for every purpose.

If you want to know which model suits your conditions: Our dehumidifier guide helps you to find out!
