Not only are work tents used to shelter and protect workmen – and women – technicians, electricians, welders, plumbers and people from countless other professions from relentless rain, sleet showers, snow squalls, the scorching sun and anything else that nature can throw at them while they are carrying out inspections or maintenance work on switch and control cabinets or toiling in holes and trenches, they are also hugely popular on film sets and in television as well as in many sectors of industry too. When was the last time you went on a bike tour through one of our many inspiringly picturesque countrysides, along paths that followed scenic stretches of waterways, through hauntingly beautiful forests or woodland, across sprawling commons or down winding, rickety roads and up narrow, twisted tracks as you drank in the wonderful views and scenery in between long, deep breaths of bracing, clean, fresh air? And when was the last time you checked the pressure of the tyres on your bike? Continue reading

If you are a homeowner – regardless whether you are the owner-occupier or the landlord – one of the worst things that can happen to you apart from being hit by floods and high water, the fate that faced whole regions up and down the country after the recent truly terrifying torrential downpours during which up to a month’s worth of rain fell in the short space of only 24 hours – is to be hit by water damage. The reasons for water damage can be manifold: a burst or leaking water pipe or connection, a broken dishwasher or washing machine, blocked plumbing, a defect or leaking roof or shoddy workmanship and poor materials. Mould doesn’t just look awful (the ugly blotches and dark stains that can cover whole walls are often the result of excess moisture caused either by high humidity levels, thermal bridges, poor insulation, cold walls or water damage). And it doesn’t just smell awful (who could ever forget that biting stench that hits you when you enter a room where mould has been festering unnoticed for some time in concealed corners or cavities or behind tiles, panelling or dry walls or ceilings?). And it doesn’t just cause you to catch your breath when you are unwittingly confronted with the dank, earthy odour that causes your eyes to sting and your senses to reel. Continue reading

What kind of a buyer are you? Are you the impulsive or trusting buyer, the buyer who is more likely to accept what he or she sees at face value and who – to a certain extent at least – is prepared to believe the promises and accept the hype surrounding a particular product? Or do you see yourself more as the cautious and critical buyer, the buyer who likes to find out more about the product they wish to buy – even if this means sacrificing a considerable amount of time and energy – to ensure that they are not only getting the best possible value for their money but also that what they are being sold is all that it is cracked up to be? Continue reading

There are a number of truly great ideas or inventions which, because they are so monumentous, have succeeded in forever changing our lives. Take sliced bread for example. It must rank high on many people’s scales or why else would they refer to it as one of the most important milestones in history when heaping praise on a particularly brilliant idea or describing the importance and ingenuity of an invention they think exceptionally highly of (“…the greatest thing since sliced bread!”)? 32.4°C! Cor blimey!! What a scorcher!!! Who would have thought that?! These past few months will remain etched in millions of memories as not only the year in which London 2012 staged a stunningly spectacular, mind-blowingly creative and heart-warmingly moving Olympic Games (which had initially looked as if it would be overshadowed by the performance of an uber greedy and underachieving supplier of security personnel), or the year in which plummeting temperatures and unrelenting rain threatened – but equally spectacularly failed – to put a damper on the Queen’s historic Diamond Jubilee River Pageant, but also as the last in a long line of exceedingly wet and exceedingly dull summers in the history of these our glorious countries.
